Troubleshooting
Problems that can arise with chain wax:
Here we will look at common problems associated with hot and liquid wax. These are explained below and solved where possible.
Problems associated with hot wax:
1 General:
After 50 km of running-in time, is the chain still running unevenly, loudly and the chain links still feel tough?
Then the chain was most likely not degreased correctly. Put the chain in a saucepan and boil it in water for 15 minutes. The oil and wax will dissolve, then degrease again with brake cleaner, let it air out and re-wax !
2. Hot wax: Chain gets louder before 800-1000km? Then the wax was too hot before removing the chain or the wax was too cold when putting it in (air bubbles should rise) .
3. Installation problems: The derailleur pulleys are directional (they rattle if installed incorrectly). There is also a metal pin in the derailleur between the two derailleur pulleys. The chain must not run over it.
4. Worn components: In many cases, worn components have led to increased noise levels. Chain wax in particular is more sensitive to wear and tear, and components that are worn at different levels in particular cause problems.
Problems associated with liquid wax
- The chain squeaks? Then it seems that the chain wax has not penetrated the chain properly and the chain is running dry. Either it should just be relubricated normally or there are problems with the way the chain wax is drawn in => try using more chain wax.
- The chain rattles? There were assembly errors with the derailleur pulleys or the chain is guided over the metal pin between the derailleur pulleys.
- Worn components: In many cases, worn components have led to increased noise levels. Chain wax in particular is more sensitive to wear and tear, and components that are worn at different levels in particular cause problems.
